How to Build a Skincare Routine from Scratch: The CollaGlow Method
CollaGlow Team
Why Most People Build Their Routine Wrong
The most common mistake in skincare is starting with the wrong products. People buy a serum they saw on TikTok, a toner recommended by a friend, and a moisturizer from a pharmacy — and layer them together without understanding how they interact. Then their skin reacts, and they blame sensitivity instead of incompatibility.
The CollaGlow Method starts differently: foundation first, actives second.
Step 1: Stabilize Your Barrier (Weeks 1–2)
Before adding any treatment products, your barrier needs to be stable. Use only three products:
- Gentle cleanser — low pH, no sulfates
- Hydrating essence — snail mucin or hyaluronic acid
- Barrier moisturizer — ceramides, snail mucin, or peptides
If your skin is calm and comfortable after 2 weeks, move to Step 2.
Step 2: Add Sun Protection (Daily, Non-Negotiable)
SPF is not optional. UV is the single biggest cause of barrier damage, aging, and hyperpigmentation. Add SEOUL 1988 Sun as the final morning step. Your routine is now complete for most days.
Step 3: Introduce Targeted Treatments (Week 3+)
Once your barrier is stable and your foundational routine is consistent, you can add one treatment at a time:
- Dark spots/uneven tone: Add Niacinamide serum after essence
- Anti-aging: Add Retinal serum (PM only, 2–3x per week)
- Deep cleansing: Add a gentle mask 1–2x per week
Wait 2 weeks between adding new products so you can identify what's working or causing reactions.
